The Centre for Excellence in Immigrant and Intercultural Advancement (CEIIA) include the Centre website, a viewbook, bannerstands, photography, presentation template and wordmark. All help build the styleguide which breaks out into four areas; Career Advancement, English Language Learning, Intercultural Development and Research and Development. Each area branch helps simplify the depth that the CEIIA provides.

From Diversity to Inclusion: A Guide for Employers

Design/Development, Bootstrap, InDesign

Funded by the Alberta Government, the guide helps integrate internationally trained individuals (ITIs) across employment sectors in Alberta. A digital guide was created along with a printed version. A forty-five minute webinar was then held to discuss the importance of developing intercultural competence in an organization.

Bow Valley College - ELL

Website Design - Multiple Languages

Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the multi language website is a tool that helps in program information, information about the federally funded program called LINC and information on how to apply for English Language Learning at Bow Valley College. The website was translated into seven different languages (French, Spanish, Chinese Traditional and Simplified, Arabic, Persian and Urdu). A responsive Wordpress theme was designed with the use of CSS to switch the translated content. Overview vidoes and interview videos were also filmed and translated using subtitles.

A Practical Guide to Teaching ESL Literacy is a useful and in-depth resource for ESL literacy practitioners. The 300 page publication can support both instructors with dedicated classes of ESL literacy learners and instructors who have ESL literacy learners mixed with non-literacy learners.

Here to Help: Workplace Communication Skills for Food Services

Funded by the Alberta Government, a learner workbook was created for a pilot course. The goal of the project is to create pathways to employment by providing English language training and job readiness assistance to English language learners who are looking to find and retain work in the food industry sector. The workbook has 4 modules with video and audio resources.

Enhancing the Wellbeing of Immigrant Women Retirees

Research Project Layout & Design

Funded by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Ehancing the Wellbeing of Immigrant Women Retirees needed an identity as several media assets were needed for interanl and external events. A badge design was created along with a style guide to help layout the media assets.

The CEIIA wanted internal reports for analytics on the Centre website. A data visualisation was designed.

ATESL ICC eBook

Layout & Design

The CEIIA was choosen to do an external project for Alberta Teachers of English as Second Language (ATESL). They wanted an interactive flip book with video slidecasts being embeded into the book. A styleguide was created using their website as a benchmark. This included a colour palette, font choice and badge design. Slidecasts and an eBook were designed. A slidecast template was designed and audio narration was recorded to overlay the slides. The eBook was rendered using a software called 3D issue. This gave the ability to embed video slidecasts into the chapter and play without leaving the resource. The eBook version was then uploaded to ATESL server to host.

ESL for All Support Kit

ESL for All Support Kit was a project funded by the Federal Government and Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). A styleguide was created first which help build out the slidecasts for the online course and video production.

eLearning Toolkit

Layout & Design, Development

The eLearning Toolkit provides a reference for ELL instructors and course developers as they establish, facilitate, and evaluate the online learning environment – the space, content, and community that you and your learners’ interact with. Design/Development included badges and a styleguide. This helped in the creation of the tools (PDFs, Word docs, Slidecasts). A website was then created using a responsive Wordpress theme to help organize the flow of information. JavaScript was used to filter all the tools.

TEDx Bow Valley College

Layout & Design

TEDx Bow Valley College is held every year which started in 2015. Design included an agenda held out during the event, name tags along with a lanyard. A collaboration with Learning Resource Services (LRS) helped in the filming and video production of the event. The videos were then uploaded to the TEDx portal website. Blog posts and photo galleries were then posted on the Centre website to help promote and wrap up the event.

In the Workplace: An Intermediate Integrated Skills Textbook

In the Workplace: An Intermediate Integrated Skills Textbook is an Open Educational Resource funded by Alberta Open Eduational Resources. Content was created and designed by the CEIIA. The 346 page texbook was rendered using 3D issue which gave the ability to embed videos directly into the chapters which then could be used on multiple Learning Resource Services (LRS) helped in the filming and video production of the five videos. The rendered version was then uploaded to the Centre website in the Resource Finder. All the multimedia files are available to download if no internet access in available. A blog post and webinar were posted to help in the promotion.

The rendered version was then uploaded to the Centre website in the Resource Finder. All the multimedia files are available to download if no internet access is available. A blog post and webinar were posted to help in the promotion.
